Abstract:

The concept of Vyādhi Utpatti (disease origination) in Ayurveda is deeply rooted in the Tridoṣa Siddhānta, which outlines the roles of Vāta, Pitta, and Kapha in maintaining physiological balance. Disease arises when these doṣas undergo vikṛti (pathological deviation) due to the influence of internal and external factors, including improper diet, lifestyle, seasonal changes, and mental disturbances. This paper explores the mechanisms through which Tridoṣa Vikṛti leads to various stages of disease formation, beginning from the subtle imbalance (sañcaya) to full clinical manifestation (vyakti) and complications (bheda). Drawing from classical Ayurvedic sources such as Caraka Saṃhitā, Suśruta Saṃhitā, and Aṣṭāṅga Hṛdaya, the study outlines the progressive nature of disease and provides insight into the role of doṣa-specific pathogenesis, srotodushti (channel dysfunction), and dhātu involvement. The paper also discusses the importance of early detection and intervention in the prāk-vyādhi (preclinical) phase using Ayurvedic diagnostic tools such as prakṛti-parīkṣa, vikṛti-vicāra, and rogi-roga parīkṣā. Understanding Vyādhi Utpatti through Tridoṣa-Vikṛti Siddhānta offers a holistic model for diagnosis, prevention, and management, reaffirming Ayurveda’s systemic and individualized approach to health and disease.
